Trump Iran Sanctions Policy Holds Firm as Peace Talks Continue

US President Donald Trump has reaffirmed that he will not release frozen Iranian assets or lift sanctions before a peace agreement is finalized. During a recent interview with NBC News, Trump said his administration would only consider such measures after both sides reach a formal deal. The Trump Iran Sanctions policy remains a key factor in ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
Trump stated that Iran must first demonstrate a willingness to cooperate before discussions about sanctions relief can begin. He also clarified that he is not insisting on Lebanon’s inclusion in a short-term agreement with Iran. According to Trump, any future concessions will depend on Iran’s actions and commitment to peace.

Peace Negotiations Face New Obstacles

The United States and Israel launched strikes against Iran on February 28, escalating tensions across the region. Since then, the Trump administration has pursued diplomatic efforts while maintaining economic and military pressure. Trump said negotiators are close to reaching an agreement but warned that military options remain available if talks collapse.
The president also expressed his willingness to speak directly with Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei. Reports suggest Khamenei has remained out of public view since sustaining injuries during the conflict. Trump hinted that US officials may know his location but declined to provide further details. Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio has defended the administration’s approach. He told lawmakers that a temporary ceasefire remains largely intact despite recent military exchanges between the two countries.

Iranian Assets Become Major Dispute

Another point of disagreement involves Iranian assets frozen by the United States. Reports indicate that US officials are assessing whether some assets could support reconstruction efforts in Gulf countries affected by the conflict. Iranian officials, however, continue to demand the release of billions of dollars as part of any peace settlement.
Recent missile and drone attacks have further complicated negotiations. Despite these challenges, diplomats continue working toward an agreement that could reduce tensions and bring greater stability to the region.
