UK and Turkmenistan Strengthen English Teacher Training through AELLCA Programme
The British Embassy in Ashgabat, the British Council, and the Turkmenistan Ministry of Education joined forces to enhance English teacher training. The event brought together teacher educators from across Turkmenistan to discuss modern teaching skills and curriculum innovation.
Collaborative Learning and Curriculum Reform
From 13 to 15 October 2025, participants joined hands-on sessions focused on methodology, lesson design, and curriculum mapping. They shared best practices and explored how to integrate reflective teaching into pre-service training programmes.
The sessions, led by experts from top educational institutions, aimed to inspire innovation in English education. Participants also created action plans and shared joint recommendations with policymakers and education leaders on the final day.
A Shared Vision for Inclusive Education
In his opening remarks, His Majesty’s Ambassador Stephen Conlon said the UK is proud to partner with Turkmenistan in modernising English language teaching. He emphasised the importance of professional development and inclusivity in education.
Jamilya Gulyamova, AELLCA Programme Director at the British Council, added that the programme aligns with Turkmenistan’s national reform goals. It focuses on empowering both teachers and learners while promoting lifelong learning.
The AELLCA Programme, funded by UK International Development, operates in five Central Asian countries. Its mission is to modernise English teaching and promote inclusive, forward-looking education systems.
