Link Between Vitamins and Homocysteine
Researchers discovered that deficiencies in vitamin B12 and folate were associated with increased levels of homocysteine in the blood. Homocysteine is a naturally occurring substance, but elevated levels have been linked to several health concerns.
According to the study, higher homocysteine levels were also connected to symptoms of fatigue and reduced motivation. Therefore, monitoring these vitamin levels could help identify people who are at risk of experiencing ongoing tiredness.
Different Effects in Men and Women
The research revealed notable differences between men and women. Women with elevated homocysteine levels were more likely to report lower motivation and decreased enthusiasm for daily activities.
In contrast, men with higher homocysteine levels were more likely to experience physical fatigue. These findings suggest that vitamin deficiencies may affect individuals differently depending on biological factors.
