WhatsApp online contacts feature spotted in beta
WhatsApp is developing a new WhatsApp online contacts feature for iPhone users. The update could make checking online activity much easier. As a result, users may no longer need to open chats individually. The feature appeared in the latest WhatsApp beta version. According to reports, the app is testing a centralized contacts hub. This section would show who is online or recently active.
Currently, users must open each conversation separately.
WhatsApp only displays activity information at the top of chats. However, the new hub would place all activity updates in one location. The feature will reportedly organize contacts into categories. Favorite contacts would appear first inside the section. After that, users would see online contacts and recently active users.
Privacy Rules Will Remain Unchanged
WhatsApp plans to keep existing privacy protections in place. People can already choose whether others see their online activity. Therefore, the new feature will follow the same rules. Users will only see online statuses if they share their own. This approach keeps activity visibility balanced between contacts. In addition, it gives users more control over privacy.
Reports say the Contacts section may appear inside Settings. Still, the feature is not available publicly yet.
Beta testers also cannot access it normally at this stage. WhatsApp often takes time releasing new tools globally. Because of that, no official launch date exists yet. Even so, the update could improve how users manage conversations. The company continues expanding convenience-focused features. A centralized online activity hub may help users communicate faster. For frequent WhatsApp users, that could become a useful addition.
