WhatsApp Web Group Calls Roll Out With Voice and Video Support
WhatsApp Web Group Calls are finally arriving for more users. The new feature allows people to start voice and video calls directly from their browser.
Previously, WhatsApp Web only supported one-on-one calls. Now, the platform is expanding that experience to group conversations. As a result, users can stay connected without switching to the desktop or mobile app.
Group Calling Comes to WhatsApp Web
The new feature is currently available to some beta testers. Users can check for availability by opening a group chat and looking for the call button at the top of the conversation. If the button appears, they can choose between a voice call or a video call. In addition, users can select specific participants instead of calling the entire group.
WhatsApp Web Group Calls support up to 32 participants. The same limit applies to both voice and video conversations. Therefore, the feature works well for family chats, team meetings, and community groups.
More Features for Browser Users
WhatsApp has also included end-to-end encryption for group calls. This means only participants can access the conversation. Neither WhatsApp nor Meta can listen to the calls.
Users can also create call links and share them with trusted contacts. These links remain active for up to 30 days if they are used. However, anyone with the link can join, so users should share them carefully.
Another useful feature is screen sharing during video calls. Participants can present documents, slides, or other content directly from their browser. As a result, WhatsApp Web becomes a more practical tool for collaboration.
This update is especially important for Linux users. Since there is no dedicated WhatsApp desktop app for Linux, many people rely on the web version. Now, they can join group calls without reaching for their phones. WhatsApp Web Group Calls are still rolling out to beta users. However, the company is expected to expand availability to more people in the coming weeks.
