ChatGPT Remains the Most Popular AI Tool in the US
ChatGPT continues to dominate the artificial intelligence chatbot market in the United States, according to a new survey conducted by the Pew Research Center. The report highlights the rapid growth of AI adoption, showing that nearly half of U.S. adults now use AI chatbots, marking a significant increase from 33% in 2024.
Among those who use AI tools, 44% identified ChatGPT as their preferred chatbot, placing it well ahead of competitors such as Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Meta AI, Claude, and Grok. The findings reinforce ChatGPT’s position as the leading AI assistant for both everyday users and professionals.
ChatGPT Leads the Growing AI Chatbot Market
The Pew survey suggests that AI chatbots have become a regular part of daily life for millions of Americans. As awareness and accessibility continue to improve, more people are turning to AI for quick answers, writing assistance, brainstorming ideas, and completing everyday tasks.
Despite growing competition from major technology companies, ChatGPT remains the platform most users trust and rely on. Its broad range of capabilities, including conversational responses, coding assistance, research support, and content creation, has helped it maintain a strong lead in the rapidly evolving AI landscape. The increase in overall AI usage also reflects the growing acceptance of generative AI tools across education, workplaces, and personal use.
Search and Productivity Drive AI Usage
The survey found that search-related tasks remain the most common reason people use AI chatbots. Instead of relying solely on traditional search engines, many users now prefer AI-generated responses that provide direct answers and summaries. Around 30% of respondents said AI helps improve their productivity by assisting with writing, research, planning, and organising information. Many also reported using AI to stay informed by quickly summarising news and explaining complex topics.
Meanwhile, only 24% of AI users said they regularly use chatbots to generate images or videos, indicating that text-based assistance continues to be the primary use case for artificial intelligence. As AI-powered search continues to evolve, experts believe these tools will play an increasingly important role in how people access information online. With user adoption rising steadily and ChatGPT maintaining a comfortable lead over its rivals, the competition in the AI chatbot market is expected to intensify in the coming years.
