Digital Education in Bulgaria: How EdTech Is Shaping a Smarter Future

Technology is transforming classrooms across Bulgaria. Through collaboration between educators, startups, and the government, digital education in Bulgaria is gaining real momentum.
Founded in 2023, EdTech Bulgaria connects teachers, policymakers, and innovators to bring learning into the digital age. With support from the European EdTech Alliance and EmpowerED, it’s helping make education more inclusive, modern, and future-ready.

Building a Collaborative Ecosystem

Two years ago, educators and startups worked in isolation. Today, EdTech Bulgaria has united them under one goal — improving access to digital learning. The group partners with the Ministry of Education and the Erasmus+ programme to bridge the digital divide, especially in rural areas.
For example, the Tech Innovators Marathon engages children and young adults in creative problem-solving using technology. Events like these prove that innovation and fun can go hand in hand.

Europe’s Digital Education Challenge

Across Europe, EdTech networks are reducing digital gaps and improving lifelong learning. However, debates over banning devices in classrooms are raising concern. Experts warn that limiting tech use may slow digital progress.
To find balance, Bulgaria and five EU partners launched TechWell, a project exploring healthy technology habits in schools. The initiative shows how teamwork and shared values can build digital wellbeing.
Bulgaria’s role in hosting the Empowering European EdTech Summit this November highlights its growing leadership. “Even small countries can make a big impact,” says Albena Spasova of EdTech Bulgaria. The movement is proof that when people, policy, and innovation unite — education thrives.
