Google Messages May Cut Pinned Chats From 20 to Just 6

Google Messages could soon change how users manage their favorite conversations. The Google Messages pinned chats feature may receive a major limit reduction. Google currently lets users pin up to 20 conversations. However, a beta version reportedly reduces that number to only six chats.

The change comes alongside a redesigned interface inspired by Apple’s iMessage. The new design displays pinned conversations as larger circular icons, creating a cleaner appearance.

Users Question the New Limit

Many users like the refreshed interface but dislike the smaller pinning limit. A recent poll also showed strong support for keeping the current allowance.

Some users regularly pin 9 or 10 conversations. Therefore, limiting the feature to six could force them to remove important chats. Interestingly, iMessage allows users to pin up to nine conversations. Some users believe Google should have reduced its limit to 10 instead.

Google could also solve the design problem with a scrolling option. This would allow users to keep more pinned conversations without overcrowding the screen. The change remains limited to beta testing for now. Google could still modify or cancel the feature before releasing it widely.

Google has increased the pinning limit several times over the years. The feature originally supported only three conversations before expanding to five, 10, and eventually 20.

For now, users can continue pinning up to 20 chats on supported stable versions. The final limit will depend on Google’s decision before the redesigned interface reaches everyone.
