Karachi University Strike Ends, Exams to Resume After Key Talks

The Karachi University Strike ended on Tuesday after teachers reached an understanding with government officials and university management. The decision brought relief to thousands of students waiting for their examinations. As a result, academic activities can now move forward after weeks of uncertainty.
The Executive Council of the Karachi University Teachers’ Society (KUTS) approved the decision during an emergency meeting. At the same time, the university’s Officers Welfare Association also called off its protest. Therefore, departments can begin preparations to conduct delayed examinations and complete pending academic work.

Negotiations Lead to Breakthrough

Earlier in the day, the Sindh Higher Education Commission hosted a meeting with representatives of teachers, officers, and employees. During the discussions, officials assured participants that they would address their concerns. Consequently, stakeholders agreed to suspend protest activities and continue discussions through dialogue.
KUTS President Dr Ghufran Alam said the teachers decided to defer the strike out of respect for Muharram and Ashura. He explained that teachers wanted to maintain the sanctity of the holy month while ensuring students did not face further difficulties. Therefore, faculty members will now conduct examinations in their respective departments.
The strike and examination boycott had affected academic schedules across the university since early May. Many students worried about delays to their studies and graduation plans. However, the latest decision has reduced uncertainty and restored hope among students and their families.

Focus Returns to Students

University officials have started planning the next phase of examinations. Faculty members and administrative staff will work together to ensure a smooth process. In addition, departments will try to recover lost academic time as quickly as possible.
Teachers also expressed hope that authorities would fulfill the commitments made during negotiations. They stressed the importance of constructive engagement to resolve institutional
issues. Meanwhile, students welcomed the development and looked forward to completing their examinations without further disruption.
The end of the protest marks a positive step for the university community. It also demonstrates how dialogue can help resolve challenges and restore normal academic operations.
