KU Associate Degree Exams Face Another Delay

The biannual examination system for Associate Degree (AD) programmes faces another delay at Karachi University (KU). Government college students remain uncertain about when they will sit their annual examinations. The Regional Directorate of Colleges has recommended suspending the system for another year. Regional Director Colleges Karachi Gulab Rai said officials need more time to review the AD programme courses.KU has also decided not to conduct the examinations for now. The university will present the matter before its Academic Council for a final decision.

Students await examination schedule

The university originally scheduled the examinations for July. However, the examination department has not started arrangements for the tests.Officials have not collected examination forms from students. They have also not established examination centres or announced examination dates.

As a result, colleges and students remain unsure about the examination schedule. The delay could further affect students waiting to complete their Associate Degree programmes.KU Acting Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Tufail Ahmed said he supports examinations twice a year. He said the system should follow the Higher Education Commission’s rules.

However, he said teachers at government colleges oppose the biannual system. He also said the university received information that Punjab universities had not introduced the semester or biannual system for AD programmes.

Academic Council to decide the matter

Rai has recommended another suspension through a letter to the KU vice chancellor. He said colleges need more time to improve the courses offered under the AD programme.According to Rai, another suspension would benefit both colleges and students. The university will now wait for the Academic Council to review the proposal. The council will discuss the issue during its meeting on September 1. After the meeting, KU will follow the council’s decision.

Meanwhile, students face continued uncertainty over their examinations. Colleges also await clear instructions from the university. The ongoing delay has raised questions about the future of the biannual examination system. Students will likely receive a clearer position after the Academic Council meeting. For now, KU has not announced new examination dates. Students and colleges must therefore wait for the university’s final decision.
