Maghull Internet Outage Enters Third Day After Cable Damage
Around 3,000 homes and businesses remain affected by the Maghull internet outage after contractors damaged underground Openreach cables during sewer repair work. The disruption has left many customers without broadband and landline services since Thursday afternoon.
Openreach said the excavation caused significant damage to its network. Engineers have worked continuously to assess the situation and restore services. However, unstable ground at the site has slowed repair work.
Residents and Businesses Face Ongoing Disruption
Local businesses say the outage has caused major problems. Some shops have lost phone lines, card payment systems, and internet access. As a result, daily operations have become much more difficult.
Labour MP Bill Esterson described the extended outage as unacceptable. He said reliable internet has become essential for work, communication, and everyday life. Therefore, he urged Openreach to restore services as quickly as possible.
Openreach apologized for the disruption and confirmed that engineers are working around the clock. The company expects services to return once repairs are completed safely. Residents have been asked to remain patient while crews continue their work. The incident also highlights how dependent communities have become on digital services. Even a temporary outage can affect businesses, healthcare, and communication. As broadband demand grows, protecting critical infrastructure remains increasingly important.
