Omar Abdullah Urges Innovation and Quality in Higher Education at NEP Conclave 2025

Srinagar, October 25 — Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has urged universities and colleges in Jammu and Kashmir to focus on innovation in higher education and maintain high-quality learning standards.
Speaking at the valedictory session of the National Education Policy (NEP) Conclave 2025 at Amar Singh College, Srinagar, he said education must evolve with changing times.
He noted that rote learning is being replaced by practical and learner-focused approaches. “Earlier, students memorised lessons and received degrees but lacked workplace readiness. Now, the NEP helps them design degrees that combine subjects and skills,” he said.

Learning Beyond Textbooks

The Chief Minister praised students’ projects displayed at the innovation exhibition. Examples included a fingerprint-based car ignition system linked to Aadhaar, carbon monoxide detectors for winter safety, and automated water systems for frozen pipes.
“These are not just ideas. They are real solutions to real problems,” he remarked, adding that the NEP encourages creativity and problem-solving.
He also applauded students for showcasing traditional crafts like papier-mâché, needlework, beekeeping, and organic farming. “Such skills reflect the diversity and strength of our education system,” he said.

Encouraging Quality and Exposure

Omar Abdullah appreciated initiatives like Colleges on Wheels, which allow students—especially young women—to explore the world and share ideas. He also congratulated colleges that earned NAAC accreditation, calling it proof of academic excellence.
“Accreditation ensures institutions meet national quality benchmarks,” he said, urging others to aim for the same.
The Chief Minister distributed certificates to students excelling in academics, sports, and cultural activities. He also visited the student innovation and craft exhibition, interacting with participants and appreciating their talent.
Through events like this, Jammu and Kashmir continues to strengthen its commitment to innovation in higher education and student empowerment.
