Sindh Employees Protest Triggers Road Closures in Karachi

Sindh Employees Protest Triggers Road Closures in Karachi

Sindh employees protest caused major traffic disruptions in Karachi on Wednesday as government workers gathered to demand higher salaries. Employees urged the government to increase pay according to rising inflation. As a result, authorities tightened security around important government buildings and public areas.
Police and district administration officials blocked several roads near the Red Zone and Karachi Press Club. They placed containers at key entry and exit points to control movement. Consequently, commuters faced long delays and traffic congestion throughout the surrounding areas.

Security Tightened Around Red Zone

Authorities deployed a large number of police officers around the Sindh Assembly and Karachi Press Club. The security arrangements included women police personnel and additional units equipped with batons and tear gas. In addition, officials stationed prison vans and water cannons nearby.
The road closures affected office workers and local residents. Many people struggled to reach their destinations on time. However, authorities maintained the restrictions to ensure security during the demonstration.
Meanwhile, hundreds of government employees gathered outside the Karachi Press Club. Members of the All Pakistan Clerks Association, the Primary School Teachers Association, and other employee groups joined the protest. They continued their sit-in for several hours and raised slogans in support of their demands.

Employees Demand Salary Increase

Leaders from various associations led the protest and addressed the participants. Sikandar Jatoi, Zulfiqar Shah, and other representatives called for salary increases that match the rising cost of living. They stressed that inflation has placed a heavy burden on government employees.
During the protest, a delegation of employee leaders met government officials at the commissioner’s office. Both sides discussed possible solutions and exchanged proposals. After the meeting, the delegation returned to the protest venue and informed workers about the discussions.
Later, protesters attempted to march towards the Sindh Assembly. Police stopped the march because roadblocks restricted access to the area. Therefore, employees staged another sit-in on the roadway.
Senior police officers, including SSP South Mahzoor Ali and SSP Keamari Sanghar Malik, arrived at the scene. They held talks with protest leaders to ease tensions and maintain order.
