Sindh Ghost Employees: Over 10,000 Education Staff Face Dismissal
The Sindh ghost employees crackdown has intensified as the provincial government plans to dismiss more than 10,000 workers from the School Education Department. Officials identified them as absent from duty for long periods. They will lose their jobs from August after failing to justify their absence despite repeated notices.
The affected employees include naib qasids, watchmen, gardeners, lab attendants, primary school teachers, and junior elementary school teachers. The School Education Department issued show-cause notices to the employees before taking action. However, officials said they failed to provide satisfactory explanations.
Hyderabad reports the highest number
The government found the largest number of ghost employees in Hyderabad Division. According to officials, more than 2,000 employees in the division remained absent from duty without valid reasons. Therefore, the department declared them absconding and started the dismissal process.
Officials said the move forms part of a wider campaign to improve discipline in public schools. They believe regular attendance by teachers and support staff will strengthen the education system. In addition, the department aims to ensure that public funds are spent only on employees who perform their duties.
Action extends across Sindh
The crackdown is not limited to Hyderabad Division. Authorities also identified thousands of ghost employees in Karachi, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Larkana, and Shaheed Benazirabad divisions. As a result, officials have expanded the verification process across the province.
The School Education Department will remove all identified ghost employees from service in August. Officials say the action will improve transparency and accountability within the department. Furthermore, they plan to continue monitoring attendance to prevent similar cases in the future. The government expects the campaign to strengthen public confidence in the education sector while ensuring that schools receive active and committed staff members.
