WhatsApp Expands Its Disappearing View Once Messages Options

WhatsApp Expands Its Disappearing View Once Messages Options

WhatsApp already offers disappearing messages with timers of 24 hours, seven days, and 90 days. Recently, the company also began testing an “After Reading” option that removes messages once they have been opened. Now, WhatsApp is taking another step forward. The platform is working on a feature that lets users send individual text messages that can only be viewed once.
According to reports, users will be able to activate the option by long-pressing the send button after typing a message. A menu will then appear with a “Send as View Once” option. Once the recipient opens the message, it will disappear and become inaccessible. As a result, users can share sensitive information with an added layer of privacy.

Feature Will Work in Chats and Groups

The new tool will support both private chats and group conversations. Therefore, users can share temporary information in different types of discussions.
The feature builds on WhatsApp’s existing view-once functionality for photos, videos, and voice notes. Many users currently place text on images to create temporary messages. CThis update removes that extra step and makes the process much simpler. However, the feature will not be available in channels. Since channels are designed for broadcast communication, temporary messages would not fit that format. At the moment, WhatsApp has not released the feature to beta testers. Even so, development appears to be progressing steadily. A testing rollout could arrive in the coming weeks before a wider release later this year.
