ZDF Removes Musk Report After He Takes Legal Action
German public broadcaster ZDF has removed part of a report. The report claimed Elon Musk had called for migrants to be hunted in Northern Ireland. ZDF conceded its wording was “misleading”. Musk said “legal action is being taken against ZDF for their outrageous lies”.
Sparked the Dispute
Violence erupted in Belfast last week. It followed a brutal knife attack. Police arrested a Sudanese man. The victim lost his left eye. The unrest led to homes and vehicles being set alight. On 12 June, a presenter introduced a ZDFheute Live programme. The title was “How Musk is fuelling the protests”. She said a “racist mob” was “hunting migrants”. She claimed the call came from a British far-right activist, Elon Musk.
Musk Actually Did
Musk had shared a post by far-right activist Tommy Robinson on X. Robinson called for protests. Musk wrote: “Only by protesting REPEATEDLY and LOUDLY will there be any change!!”. He did not call for a “hunt” on migrants.
ZDF’s Response
ZDF issued a clarification. It said its wording had been “imprecise and therefore misleading”. The broadcaster added a corrective notice on Saturday. It then removed the introduction altogether. ZDF said it issued a “cease and desist” declaration after Musk demanded it.
